Connecting entrepreneurs; launching products

Posted on February 7th, 2007 by Jeff Haynie.

Josh Watts is a local Atlanta entrepreneur - his company is called Blue Violin. He’s also the kind of enterprenuer I like: one that’s making it happen and boostrapping it - whatever it takes. That’s not to say that I’m sure he’s not interested in venture capital and would love to get his company bought by a larger company. But he’s pursuing the dream and he’s connecting with other people doing it as well.

In his own words, Blue Violin is:

a tool to help test your website. Testing websites can be a tedious process - lots of clicking and typing. Lather. Rinse. Repeat over and over again.

Mike Schinkel is another local entrepreneur. He’s building a cool product called T.oolico.us. The idea is that Toolicious will provide users with a row of hyperlinks to useful page-specific functionality - all embedded nice and neatly (and I’m sure, named properly) into the top of each web page.

What’s neat about both Josh and Mike is that they’re both going to launch their new products at SoCon07. Wow, how cool. One of my personal goals for SoCon07 was to help bring people together in Atlanta. I believe that when you get people together in a collaborative fashion, they network and find ways to work together and help each other out. SoCon07 hasn’t even started and people are connecting already - and they’re finding ways to work together.

One of our goals is to help people connect and help find ways we can facilitate that - through events, mentoring, networking and investing. Building the entrepreneurial community here in Atlanta is important to each of us. How can you help?

Down at the ATDC we are in the midst of a little research project to determine exactly how we can have a larger impact by helping entrepreneurs more effectively. If any of you big thinkrs out there have some thoughts you would like to share I would be more than happy to buy you a cup of joe or your adult beverate of choice to hear them. lance at atdc dot org
