It isn’t really so much about the thinking
A few weeks ago, most of the posters to this group blog (which I suppose will finally include me once this goes up) got together for dinner at Brio. There was a lot discussed, and I’m sure some of those topics will start to show up on the blog. One thing we talked about a bit was the name of the blog itself: Big Thinkr.
I think it is a rather ironic name for a blog about entrepreneurialism. Not that entrepreneurs are not big thinkers. Certainly they are. I don’t think it is the thinking that separate them from non-entrepreneurs, though. Rather, it is the doing. Lots of people have lots of ideas. Entrepreneurs have ideas and then do something about them.
Our dinner and this blog are actually examples of that. Last year I mentioned to Sanjay that I thought it would be a good idea to get people together that we knew who were doing interesting things in Atlanta. Sanjay kept after me to do something about it, and we had our first dinner on August 9th of last year. I’m really excited about what we have going on, but my idea would be worth diddly were it not for Sanjay’s urge to action.
At the same time we were originally talking about getting folks together for dinners, Sanjay ran across STIRR, and we talked about setting up something similar here. He thought of calling it Big Thinkr and registered the domain name. We gave Sanjay a hard time at dinner about the name and whether it was pretentious, but nobody had a better idea for a name.
Perhaps we will rename it. Perhaps we won’t. I don’t know. What I do know is that if Sanjay hadn’t registered the domain name and fired up WordPress, these posts wouldn’t be here and that is something.
In the end, it is the doing that counts.
